NKJV: 26 Now
an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, “Arise and go toward the south
along the road which goes down from Jerusalem to
Gaza .” This is
desert. 27 So he arose and went.
And behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace the
queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge of all her treasury, and had come to
Jerusalem to worship, 28 was
returning. And sitting in his chariot, he was reading Isaiah the prophet. 29 Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go near and
overtake this chariot.” 30 So
Philip ran to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, “Do you
understand what you are reading?” 31 And
he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he asked Philip to come up
and sit with him. 32 The place in
the Scripture which he read was this: “He was led as
a sheep to the slaughter; And as a lamb before its shearer is silent, so He opened
not His mouth. 33 In His humiliation His justice was taken away, and who will
declare His generation? For His life is taken from the earth.” 34 So
the eunuch answered Philip and said, “I ask you, of whom does the prophet say
this, of himself or of some other man?” 35
Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at this Scripture, preached
Jesus to him. 36 Now as they went
down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, “See, here is
water. What hinders me from being baptized?” 37 Then Philip said, “If you believe with
all your heart, you may.” And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus
Christ is the Son of God.” 38
So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the
eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him.
NIV: 26 Now an angel of the
Lord said to Philip, “Go south to the road—the desert road—that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza .”
27 So he started out,
and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of
all the treasury of the Kandake (which means “queen of the Ethiopians”). This
man had gone to Jerusalem
to worship, 28 and on his way
home was sitting in his chariot reading the Book of Isaiah the prophet.
29 The Spirit told
Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.” 30 Then Philip ran up
to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand
what you are reading?” Philip asked. 31 “How can I,” he
said, “unless someone explains it to me?” So he invited Philip to come up and
sit with him. 32 This is the
passage of Scripture the eunuch was reading: “He was led like a sheep to the
slaughter, and as a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he did not open his
mouth. 33 In his humiliation he was deprived of
justice. Who can speak of his descendants? For his life was taken from the
earth.” 34 The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, please,
who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?” 35 Then Philip began
with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus. 36 As they traveled
along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is
water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?” [37]
38 And he gave orders
to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water
and Philip baptized him.
Notice
how the verse 37 answers the eunuch question on what hinders him from being
baptized. NIV version makes it appears that one must just be baptized without
mentioning the most important part – BELIEVING WITH ALL OUR HEART THAT JESUS
CHRIST IS THE SON OF GOD. NIV doesn’t answer that important question. It just
makes it seems to be baptized only.
See
what this verse says about the importance about God’s scriptures. 2 Timothy
3:16-17; All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is
profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
that the
man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Just
by Peter stating in Matthew 16:16 (And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art
the Christ, the Son of the living God). Jesus is telling us how Jesus is the
Word; And that Word (Jesus) is what His Church will be built upon. NOTHING
ELSE. So you see how important it is for us to know all the scriptures. satan
had his workers take out that important factor. That’s just one scripture noted
that shows the dangers to removing God’s Word from His Bible. It causes
confusion. And we know who is the author of confusion; satan. This is a time
for us to be mature in our discernment. Be blessed & keep watch.
